If you haven’t read Girl Online, On Tour then I suggest you don’t read this blog. There will be spoilers!
So, I have just finished reading Girl Online, On Tour by Zoe Sugg (aka Youtuber, Zoella). I received this book as a birthday present in December from my boyfriend. I have been watching Zoella’s YouTube videos for just over a year now and she is by far my favourite YouTuber. When she first brought out Girl Online, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. After finishing the book I was thoroughly pleased with it and I hoped and hoped she would release a follow on book, and to no surprise, SHE DID! So of course I couldn’t wait to read Girl Online, On Tour.
I did enjoy this book but that being said I don’t think it is as good as the first one. Anyway, I wasn’t particularly thrilled about when Penny was on tour with Noah. I was excited about the idea but once I read it I wasn’t so keen. I found that it was quite far fetched and a bit repetitive. I thought the chapters where Penny was on tour with Noah seemed to drag and I really missed how they didn’t have one Magical Mystery Day (although I know that’s part of the reason for their heartbreak etc…).
What I did LOVE about this book was the progressing friendship of Penny and Elliot, I mean aren’t they just ultimate friendship goals? I loved the part where Penny and Elliot went around Paris together! And I really loved the relationship of Elliot and Alex, that was honestly so cute!
One of my favourite parts of the book was actually when Blake came on to Penny and then accused her of coming on to him (that sounds mean of me, I know) but this part of the book made things A LOT more interesting and intriguing. I couldn’t put it down and I was just so curious of what Noah would say when Penny told him and I was utterly shocked by his reaction! A scene where Noah finds out the truth after Blake drunkenly tells him the actual truth would have been quite interesting though. One character that I wasn’t expecting to make an appearance was Leah, but I loved her character and Penny’s makeover was so exciting (I hope this book gets made into a film so that I can see her makeover for real!)
My one critique is that I feel like Zoella’s youtube videos are aimed at an audience around the age of 17+ because of the makeup tutorials, and house hold hauls videos etc…? but this book is more aimed at a younger audience! (Maybe the age of 13-15?)
The character of Penny in both Girl Online books is so much like Zoella that I can always picture her whenever she’s described, does anyone else agree? And when I read about Penny and Noah I can’t help but see Zoella and Alfie in my head!
I hope you enjoyed this blog! Let me know what you guys thought of Girl Online, On Tour. I would love to know! Do you think there will be another book? Do you think it was better than Girl Online? Are there any books that you would recommend?
